An Artist who specialises in Mixed Media, with an Illustrative Contemporary style.
Artist Statement
I work with a variety of media and have a particular desire to explore different materials and techniques to achieve a richness of colour and depth in my work as a personal interpretation of the landscape. I like to take advantage of the 'chance' elements to harness mood and atmosphere.
I am inspired by the feelings colours and textures of nature and seek to create an image that has a sense of mystery yet is harmonious in colour and composition, to share with the viewer the excitement and enthusiasm that goes into each piece of work. I usually draw primarily 'on site' in watercolour. I then develop my work with acrylics inks pastels and any materials that combine together as a whole to produce the desired effect.
I thus conclude my translation of observed remembered and instinctive responses to nature as a finished work usually in mixed media. Background During a long successful career in Staffordshire of lecturing and in business [within the creative industries], I took time out over 20 years ago to fulfil a long held ambition to study Art and Design at Burslem College of Art where, during my studies, I developed an illustrative contemporary style.
I then went on to teach in small groups, ran Art Workshops and organised several Designer/Maker fairs. Finally and now as a full-time Artist, I exhibit and sell work in the South of France and here in my home county of Staffordshire.
Locally my work has been selected for the Open all Media Royal Birmingham Society of Artists 2009, 2010, open watercolour in 2011. and in the Open Shire Hall Stafford 2009 and again in 2010. Whilst I continue to explore and develop the adventurous side of my work, it is always underpinned by my Art Studies as both a starting point and anchor. My new work can be found at:-
The Radford Gallery Stone www.theradfordgallery.co.uk and later this year in North Yorkshire and Lodeve France.
